Get help for alcohol abuse and major depression for the mother?
My mother was severely depressed, for the last few years. She has many questions. Alcohol is a problem. She has lost many jobs due to not go to work because she got drunk the night before. He touched her relationship with my father (they are separated). It is supposed to start a new work Monday (I doubt that will last). She has no insurance. My mom needs help and I dont know what to do. Where can she go. I know it wont go to AA, but she needs help like talking to a counselor or something. Please advice! Im not a teenager im 22 years old. Mother has hit bottom. His marriage of 23 years collapsed. She has no money, a van that will soon die. And live with his mom and dad.
I'm sorry things were so bad for your mother (and you too). I am a recovering alcoholic sober for six years. Me too lost jobs but did not realize the two are linked. I finally quit when my therapist has issued an ultimatum: either stop drinking, or there is no cure. He was (and still is) so important to me that I stopped drinking. I knew I needed help. Today marks the beginning of our tenth year together. (I have serious mental health problems, too.) I belong to a large AA group and six years I have seen many people come and go. It seems that people have to touch the bottom (s) before realizing that there might just be a problem. But if your mother does not want to stop drinking, there is nothing you or anyone else can do. All you can do is to "suggest" about her help and pray. Once she stops drinking, his depression improved. Find Al-Anon in your area. They can be very useful to family members. Good luck.
