depression shingles

My MD ordered Lyrica for chronic pain and post-shingles pain. Is this just temporary or is it permanent?

I had chronic pain for 12 years and in April 2006, I developed shingles on the side of the neck area Rt. Then in May, I developed a kidney infection Rt, sepsis and pneumonia. I was in the Hosp. for 12 days and still trying to recover. Of course, my back pain is chronic and I quit my job because the thought of tolerating the pain at work is more frightening and causing much anxiety. I just put on Lyrica for pain after shingles. Is this just help the pain or will it ever win? I also had shingles when I was 27 years. I recently been sent to a neurologist, blood, brain scan, MRI of the neck (the pain comes from my neck due to degeneration, etc.) and now a neurosurgeon, who wanted to do exploratory one year ago next week. I am also restarting psychotherapy for depression has increased. I am applying for Social Security Disability. Basically how Lyrica may help and can damage my kidneys? My kidney is normal.

I also had chronic pain for 12 years. For most of that time my pain was managed with Klonopin (Clonazepam) and several other drugs. Klonopin does a pretty good job, but I developed a tolerance to it. My doctor told me to taper off of it, but did not provide me with sufficient Klonopin done safely. I suffered a crisis of withdrawal and withdrawal syndrome developed benzodiazepines. Now I'm not only deal with my chronic pain, non-medicated, but the debilitating symptoms of BWS. (Benzos avoid! Klonopin, Valium, Xanax and many others) recently, I was taking a high dose of Neurontin (gabapentin), 2400 mg per day, and he has helped but not enough. Neurontin is the same family of drugs that Lyrica (pregabalin). I will ask my doctor to try me on Lyrica because it is more bioavailable, which takes much less of it to do the same work as Neurontin. Less needs to be better on the bodies, I figure. Another drug of the same family is Gabitril (tiagabine). I was not able to tolerate the drug. It made me feel like I'm losing my mind! However, just because I'm evil, this does not mean you. Ideally, we could retrieve our circumstances and need not be on any What drugs in the future, but if it is not possible, then my goal is to be the smallest number of drugs, the smallest possible dose that provides the most benefit and the least long term damage to my body. I'm still working in that direction. Now, after I preached that "less is more, I suggest you ask your doctor to be on an antidepressant if you are not already on. Paxil, 40 mg per day, helped me a lot. Good luck to you.
